Bart Michiels is a photographer born and raised in Belgium. He moved to New York shortly after studying photography at the St. Lucas School for The Arts in Brussels. Soon after his arrival in the States, he embarked on one of his first long term personal projects, Southern Trilogy, of which the second part Riverworks was awarded The Project Competition’s First Prize in 1995. The Course of History, a body of work about the crossroads of landscape, history and memory made him both a finalist for The Santa Fe Prize for Photography in 2006 and for the Prix HSBC pour la Photographie in 2010. His work is internationally collected by museums and private collectors.
