My first project after graduating and shortly before moving to the US. These portraits are of the people I knew and saw in my village in Flanders while growing up there since age four. Maybe I was photographing them to keep the memory of my hometown alive, in a kind of a departing act.
This series was published as a small book along with poems by my grade school teacher and poet who was also portrayed in the series.
